2016 was a great year for us in Victoria! Thank you to all of our clients for making it so fun and successful. We had the opportunity to work on some really cool projects and light installations with some wonderful people this past Christmas season, and we’d like to share a few with you! Some were new projects, and some were a continuation or expansion of a project we’ve been working on for a few years. Here are some of our favourites from 2016:
We have been working with the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority and Western Stevedoring for a few years now, but this particular installation was definitely the most fun! With their location and an ocean theme in mind, we built a whale and an octopus, and have many ideas for continuing on this theme next year. This is one of our favourite light installations in Victoria for sure!
2.Uptown Shopping Centre
If you were at Uptown this Christmas, you surely noticed the white lights lining the boulevard at night. While our FestiLight crew didn’t install these lights, we worked closely with Uptown Shopping Centre so that they could switch to our exclusive commercial grade LED lights. What makes these lights special is the watertight coaxial plugs that attach the strings together. These plugs screw together and have a rubber ring inside the connection, so as to keep water out of the string. They used so many lights on the property, that they started installing them in September! It looked absolutely magical at night, and we can’t wait to see the project’s expansion over the coming year. Between the lovely staff and the amazing property, this is hands down one of our favourite commercial lighting projects.
2016 was the third year we decorated this gorgeous house in the Uplands. With its vast roofline, it is easy to make the house pop! Playing with colour is fun, but there is nothing more classically beautiful than warm white lights on heritage style home. The view from the lift to the other side of the house isn’t so bad either!
4.Harbour Air and the Flying Otter Grill
In the spring of 2016, we decorated The Flying Otter Grill, as well as the new Harbour Air Terminal that was brought into the Victoria Inner Harbour on a barge just over a year ago. Both are permanent installations using warm white “super bright globe lights”, but one of the great things about our exclusive roofline lights is that each bulb is replaceable, meaning you can change the colour scheme of the light fixtures if you want! Harbour Air purchased red and green bulbs from us as well, switching to red and white for Canada Day, and red and green for Christmas. This is always a fun job for us because the staff are wonderful, and the view is unparalleled!
5.You Move Me
If you haven’t heard of You Move Me yet, you will want to get to know them! Moving house is always an incredibly stressful affair, and You Move Me doesn’t just move your stuff, they bring you coffee and work with you to make moving as easy and hassle-free as possible. It was so fun to decorate one of their trucks for the Santa Claus Parade this year, and to get to know their crew in the process. This was the first time we’d done exterior lighting on a vehicle in Victoria, and it certainly won’t be the last!
